Through the early years of professional football in Pittsburgh, Rooney found himself fighting an uphill battle against the ever so popular baseball and college football that seemed to be the main focus of Pittsburgh sports fans at that time. It also didn't help that they weren't really that successful starting out. Rooney was determined, however, to make Pittsburgh an NFL city, and to make the team a success. In 1940, he decided to change the name of the team to the Pittsburgh Steelers in recognition of the city's deep heritage in the steel industry. The Steelers continued to struggle through the years of World War II and through the 1960s, however, things were beginning to turn around for them. In 1970, in the midst of the NFL-AFC merger, the Steelers moved into their new home at Three Rivers Stadium, after sharing Forbes Field and Pitt Stadium since their inception. The new field seemed to bring new life to the Steelers who won their first division title in 1973, and then back to back Super Bowls in 1974 and 1975 led by, Hall of Fame quarterback, Terry Bradshaw. Bradshaw again led the Steelers to Super Bowl championships in 1978 and 1979, making them the first ever team in NFL history to win back-to-back Super Bowls TWICE! With six consecutive AFC Central championships, eight straight years of playoff appearances, and four Super Bowl championships, the Pittsburgh Steelers were appropriately named "Team of the Decade" for the 1970s. After cooling off a bit during the 80s and 90s, the Steelers opened their current stadium, Heinz Field, in 1998, and went on to win Super Bowl XL in 2005 with Big Ben Roethlisberger becoming the youngest quarterback ever to win a Super Bowl.
