ASU has a rich history of great athletics and in 1970 Arkansas State was the NCAA small college football national champion. The Indians beat Central Missouri State University in the Pecan Bowl in Arlington, Texas to win the national championship and held an undefeated season, 11-0. In the 1970s ASU competed at the NCAA Division I level and in 1975 finished an undefeated 11-0. ASU was 1 of only 2 undefeated Division I football teams that year. They can also state being one of only four universities to have not lost a season game and still not win a National Championship at the Division I-A level.
